Travel With A Portable Oxygen Concentrator
By Train
If you will be traveling by train, be sure to contact the carrier and ask if any specific guidelines are required for traveling with oxygen. Many rail carriers will require that you have a medical need to bring oxygen aboard, so always carry a copy of your prescription from your physician with you at all times. When you purchase your train ticket or make a reservation, ask for a seat close to a power port. If the train does not have accessible power, make sure to carry enough batteries for the duration of your trip.
For more information, call 1-800-USA-RAIL.
NOTE: AMTRAK requires that you give 12 hours of notice that you will be traveling with a Portable Oxygen Concentrator. Because it is not possible to make reservations that include oxygen equipment on Amtrak.com, please call 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) or TTY (1-800-523-6590) if you need to bring oxygen equipment on your trip. Agents are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Power Source: Oxygen Concentrators must be able to operate a minimum of 4 hours without available onboard electrical power (in the event of a power disruption onboard). Make sure to bring along plenty of battery power for your trip.
