Keeping Active With COPD

Many of our Portable Oxygen Solutions customers have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).  Doctors have found that COPD develops from smoking, heavy exposure to pollution, chemicals, or dusts, and sometimes genes may also contribute to the development of this disease.  COPD causes airway blockages that make it very hard for the patient to breathe, but it is possible to slow the progression of this disease and there are ways to improve quality of life and live longer.   It is recommended by health professionals that COPD patients remain as active as possible.  The COPD patient can benefit greatly from certain breathing exercises. The benefits of exercise include: improvement in your body’s use of oxygen, improvement in your breathing and the decrease of other symptoms, strengthening of the heart, lowering of blood pressure, and circulation improvement, and also energy improvement.  Being able to be out in the community has emotional benefits that can contribute to the health of the body as well.  Portable Oxygen Solutions provides a variety of portable oxygen concentrators for our customers that make it possible for them stay healthy and strong while still receiving the oxygen therapy they need.  Our systems are designed to meet the specific needs of the user for mobility and portability.  We offer efficient and cost-effective options for our customer’s needs.  As always, we suggest you discuss with your doctor or home therapy provider how much physical activity you are able to participate in.  You can also call the COPD Information Line at 1-866-316-COPD (2673) for help and support for you and/or your caregiver and to connect with others who are living with COPD. Portable Oxygen Solutions seeks to help you find ways to meet challenges and thrive in your day to day life using portable oxygen therapy.
